 Selection of Postgraduate Scholars

Every spring, the Fund’s Awards Committee notifies the University of Oxford and academic institutions in China and Hong Kong of the availability of awards.  These institutions include those of the highest quality, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  Students will be normally resident in China and will have been offered places at the University of Oxford for postgraduate studies in any subject.  Preference will be given to those studying overseas and entering Britain for the first time.  Applications are accepted directly from suitable students and forwarded to the Awards Committee for pre-screening.

Criteria for selection are:

Academic excellence.

Financial need.

A confirmed place at the University of Oxford.

English skills sufficient to allow the student to fully benefit from an award placement.

A commitment to contributing to the future of China.

Leadership qualities.

A rounded personality.

Those students selected for consideration will be invited to attend interviews with the Awards Committee in Beijing,  Shnaghai, Shenzhen or Hong Kong.  At this stage, the Awards Committee will ask for confirmation of each candidate's financial resources as well as of their academic records.  They will then make their final selection of scholars.

Scholarships are awarded for one year.  Although postgraduate studies at Oxford normally last for longer than one year, the Fund believes that students will be able to locate other sources of funding for subsequent years.  The Fund seeks to enable students to take up the initial offer of a place and to provide finance for the first year of studies.
